A Weekend at the Movies

This entire weekend has been dedicated to movies. Friday night, I saw Shutter Island, last night I saw Alice in Wonderland (3D), and tonight is the Academy Awards.

In my opinion, Shutter Island was great!

I was on the edge of my seat throughout most of the film, and despite front row, it was a good experience. Leo is so handsome and BRILLIANT and Michelle Williams compliments him almost as perfectly as Kate Winslet (Titanic and Revolutionary Road). Their chemistry called for some amazing, heart-wrenching, chilling scenes. There is a twist, which I was aware of before seeing it, but was still guessing up until the end. The entire film is pretty disturbing, considering it's based on an island for the criminally insane, but it's definitely worth seeing.

Alice in Wonderland was definitely good too, I'm not sure it quite lived up to the hype, though. Visually, the film was colorful and strikingly beautiful. The story (based on the novel), was full of action and a little more active than the cartoon version, which I really enjoyed. That being said, I still feel as if the characters were not fully developed. I would have liked to learn/seen more of the white queen (portrayed by Anne Hathaway, whom does a BEAUTIFUL job) and Johnny Depp's, the Mad Hatter. They might have left his character undeveloped so he would seem mysterious, and well, mad, but A LOT of the hype was around his character, which we didn't see enough of. Besides that, I thought the film was great. The make up and costumes are TO DIE FOR. Each time Alice shrinks and grows, she wears a different dress and they are all amazing! Definitely check it out (especially to see what all the buzz it about!)

I thought this was really fun, too!

Tonight is the Academy Awards (better known as the Oscars). I will be joining great friends in our yearly tradition of watching the ceremony together. I'm excited to see the winners and fashion! Here is a link to all the nominee's this year:
